Dr. Adam Mayerson founded Endocrine Associates of Connecticut in October 2001 with his late partner Dr. Gordon Reid. Dr. Mayerson was born and raised in Somerset, New Jersey. In 1992, he earned his BA in Biology, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Brandeis University. He earned his MD at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1996.
Dr. Mayerson completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1999 and a fellowship in Endocrinology & Metabolism at the Yale School of Medicine in 2001. He was named Associate Section Chief of Endocrinology at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2007. He is actively involved with teaching Yale medical students, resident and fellows, holding the title of Associate Clinical Professor at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Mayerson was elected President of the New Haven County Medical Association for the 2009-2010 term.

Dr. Surani Fernando has been part of Endocrine Associates of Connecticut since January 2007. She was born in Sri Lanka and raised in Queens, New York. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Columbia College, New York receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She subsequently earned her MD at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Fernando then completed her Internal Medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in 2000 and was Chief Resident at the Department of Medicine, Hospital of Saint Raphaels in 2001. She returned to Yale University to complete a three-year fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, where she devoted her research time to the study of hypoglycemia in Type 1 Diabetes. Along with her busy clinical practice at Endocrine Associates, she is also a preceptor and educator for medical students, residents and fellows at the Yale School of Medicine and Frank H Netter School of Medicine.
Dr. Fernando is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She is a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology and a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Dr. Fernando has earned professional certification (ECNU) in neck ultrasonography, for physicians who perform consultations and diagnostic evaluations for thyroid and parathyroid disorders (including ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration). This certification is bestowed by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

Dr Kai Yang joined Metabolism Associates in New Haven, CT in 1997 and subsequently Endocrine Associates of Connecticut in 2001. In 1984, she earned her BA in Biochemistry and English at Smith College. After earning her MD at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD, Dr. Yang completed her Internal Medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1991. She then completed a fellowship/research training in Endocrinology & Metabolism at Yale. Dr. Yang is a dedicated clinician and teacher and led the Thyroid Conference/monthly Endocrine Tumor Board at Yale University School of Medicine, for seventeen years. She continues to remain an active participant in the Thyroid Conference and is Clinical Associate Professor in the Dept of Endocrinology. She has precepted nurse practitioners, medical students and residents in both clinical practice and in doctoral studies. She has been active on several committees to improve diabetes management.

Dr Rosewater was born in Kiev, Ukraine and moved to New Haven, C T with her family in 1990. She graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1993 and went on to earn a BA in Zoology from Connecticut College in New London, CT in 1997. Subsequently, she earned my MD from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA and completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at UMDNJ, Robert Wood Johnson Medical College. She then returned to CT and completed a three-year fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at Yale University. In August of 2009 she was delighted to join Endocrine Associates and combines clinical practice with medical education, working with medical residents from Hospital of St Raphael.
She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and is a member of Endocrine society, and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

Dr Shilpa Shetty joined Endocrine Associates of Connecticut in 2022. She was born and raised in England and India. Dr. Shetty earned her medical degree at Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, India, then immigrated to the United States to pursue her Internal Medicine residency training at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT. She then completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, where she served as Chief Fellow in 2016. Between 2016 and 2022, Dr Shetty worked as a clinical Endocrinologist at Trinity Health of New England in Waterbury, CT. She joined Endocrine Associates of Connecticut in 2022. Dr Shetty treats all endocrine problems, with a special interest in diabetes mellitus and the role that evidence-based lifestyle medicine plays in the prevention and management of metabolic disease.
Dr Shetty is board-certified in Internal Medicine and in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She is an active member of the Endocrine Society and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.

Erwin Nepomuceno, MSN, APRN, FNP-C earned his Associate Degree in Nursing from Three Rivers Community College and subsequent RN license in 2013. He held various roles in his RN career from bedside nursing to homecare case manager, RN supervisor, and clinical research as a research RN and Clinical Research Coordinator. He then decided to go back to school and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2020 and Master in Science Degree in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner in 2022 through Chamberlain University. Afterwards, he completed an optional Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Residency Program through the Weitzman’s Institute in 2023. His clinical rotations include: Adult and pediatric primary care; Hospital newborn nursery care; Urgent care; Women's Health; Chiropractic clinic; Endocrinology; LGBTQ care; HIV/HCV management; Substance abuse management; Homeless shelters; Migrant farm workers clinic; Middle- and High-School based health care; Adult and pediatric psych; Dermatology; and Orthopedics. Dr. Philip Goldberg established the shoreline (Branford) office of Endocrine Associates of Connecticut in October 2005. Dr. Goldberg was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. In 1992, he earned his BA in Psychology from Cornell University. After earning his MD at Cornell University Medical College in 1996, Dr. Goldberg completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1999. Then, after spending two years practicing primary care at Clinton Internal Medicine (Clinton, CT), Dr. Goldberg returned to Yale University in 2001 to complete a four-year fellowship in Endocrinology & Metabolism. Dr. Goldberg is a dedicated clinician and teacher. In and out of the office, he devotes much of his time to educating medical students, residents, and fellows at the Yale University School of Medicine, where he is a Clinical Associate Professor.

Dr. Grochowalska was born and raised in Warsaw, Poland. She and her family emigrated to the United States in 1995. In 2002, Dr. Grochowalska graduated from Duke University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, with a concentration in Neuroscience and a minor in Art History. She then attended the New York University School of Medicine, where she earned her MD degree in 2006. In 2009, Dr. Grochowalska completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital, where she also completed a two-year fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism in 2011. Dr. Grochowalska is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.
Between 2011 and 2017, Dr. Grochowalska worked as a full-time clinical Endocrinologist at PriMed Physicians (and Yale New Haven Health) in Trumbull, Connecticut. We are grateful that life circumstances attracted Dr. G and her family to the Connecticut shoreline in 2017.

Dr. Mary Ruth Windham was born and raised in Mississippi. She graduated from Yale University in 2003 with a degree in history. She then taught high school and subsequently completed a PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University prior to starting medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she completed her MD in 2017. Dr. Windham completed her internal medicine residency at Yale New Haven Health in 2020. She then worked as a primary care physician at the West Haven VA Medical Center for two years before returning to Yale New Haven Health to complete a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism in 2024. Dr. Windham is excited to join Endocrine Associates in September 2024.

Karen Moriarty, APRN, CDE, earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island. In 1994, she began her nursing career as a Registered Nurse at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Karen is a 2002 graduate of the Adult Nurse Practitioner program at Yale University, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society of Nursing. She also earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Yale University in 2002.
Karen’s extensive nursing experience includes adult inpatient medicine, HIV/AIDS, and medical intensive care. At Yale New Haven Hospital, she achieved Clinical Nurse II status and co-chaired the Yale MICU Sedation Committee. As a clinical nurse practitioner, Karen first worked in the field of Rheumatology. She joined Endocrine Associates of Connecticut in 2014, and has since developed clinical expertise in the management of a wide variety of Endocrine conditions, including diabetes mellitus, thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, and osteoporosis.
Karen’s professional affiliations include membership in CTAPRNS and the American Diabetes Association.

Kathryn Peterson, MSN, FNP-C, achieved her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in August 2014 from the Quinnipiac Accelerated Nursing Program on the Dean’s List after previously holding a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. She worked as a registered nurse on a medicine floor before transferring to a labor and delivery unit at Yale New Haven Hospital, where she has been for 6 years. While working full time, she decided to return to Quinnipiac and graduated on the Dean’s list with a Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2019, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society of Nursing. She is now working on completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Quinnipiac.
Kathryn continues to work as a nurse on the labor and delivery unit at YNHH while also having the pleasure of teaching nursing students as adjunct faculty at Quinnipiac University. She is excited to grow in her career as a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner at Endocrine Associates!
